What would you tell President Barack Obama if he asked you, "What should we do to transform American education?" I started asking this question a year ago to educators, parents, and my friends working with technology. The answers I heard were, to be completely honest, "same old, same old." I have been an educator for almost 50 years, and I have seen some many changes tried that failed to scale; that failed to change the system; that failed to make a real difference in student learning. Yet the need is profound. We only graduate 40% of our children from college and we need to double that to have a vibrant 21st century economy for all.
I thus started thinking about what I would say to the President. The Common Wealth Plan is my answer. I would love your thoughts.
